Romania – Holidays in 2024
By law, Romania has 51 public holidays, but only some are declared non-working days. Percentagewise, 14% of the days of a year are represented in Romania by holidays, in which various events take place. To these are added the days celebrated at an international or worldwide level.
The Labor Code provides for 15 days off granted on the occasion of national holidays, namely 3 days for Easter (Good Friday, Easter Day, Easter Monday), 2 days for Pentecost, 2 days for Christmas, 2 days for New Year and 1 day each for the Day of the Union of the Romanian Principalities (24 Jan), International Day of Labor (1 May), Children's Day (1 Jun), Virgin Mary(15 Aug), St Andrew (30 Nov) and Romania's National Day (1 Dec).

There is no work on national holidays, with the exception of sanitary and public catering units, as well as units where the activity cannot be interrupted due to the production process or the specifics of the activity. Employees who work in such units are entitled to compensation with appropriate time off, granted in the next 30 days.
